Vânia Costa Ramos admitted to the List of Counsel before the International Criminal Court

Vânia Costa Ramos, founding partner and member of the General Council of Carlos Pinto de Abreu e Associados, has just been admitted to the List of Lawyers of the International Criminal Court ("ICC") being, from now on, eligible to be appointed to represent suspects and accused persons, victims or witnesses before this Court in the future.

Providing Legal Services

Providing legal services is not a mere provision of services, a commercial or self-interested act. It is more, much more than that.

The acts practiced by lawyers are useful and generate utility far beyond the strictly economic value. A person´s individual right of freedom, property rights, honour, principles of fairness and justice and values are a permanent concern to us.

Principles and Values

The legal profession is a profession of social interest. It is an indispensable and highly personal activity and the lawyer’s intervention goes beyond defending of personal interests, but equally he cannot possibly disregard them. There is a demand for a special relationship between a lawyer and his client, that relationship is one of confidentiality, trust, comfort and proximity. This is the ultimate reason for the existence of this noble profession.

The lawyer is an independent professional. He uses the enacted legislation and the law as his tools of trade in order to achieve his clients’ legitimate and fair claims. Regardless of the difficulty of the case and obstacles and the costs involved in study and research and preparation and complete monitoring of the proceedings.
