Vânia Costa Ramos, founding partner and member of the General Council of Carlos Pinto de Abreu e Associados, has just been admitted to the List of Lawyers of the International Criminal Court (“ICC”) being, from now on, eligible to be appointed to represent suspects and accused persons, victims or witnesses before this Court in the future.
Her admission has been accepted on the bases of a merits assessment, in view of her extensive experience and proven competence in the areas of criminal law and international criminal law. The ICC was established in 1998 and began functioning in 2002 in The Hague, where it has its current seat, in accordance with Article 3 of the Rome Statute.
It is an independent, permanent tribunal which prosecutes persons accused of the most serious international crimes, such as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
